Billie Jones
Publisher/Editor
Beginning this new endeavor in August, 2007 the journey of Glen Rose Newspaper has been one that has brightened many faces in the community and has brought information to the public.
Billie brings many years of newspaper experience to the Glen Rose Newspaper. She began her career at the early age of 15. Billie has been in the newspaper or printing field for most of her life. She has owned and operated two newspapers in Texas, and served as editor of two newspapers in Colorado.
At the young age of 17, Billie bought her first newspaper in Granbury and ran the full-size publication for three years while also attending high school. This work entailed all aspects of newspaper publication, including selling advertisements, writing stories, typesetting the articles and designing and typesetting the ads on pre-historic CompuGraphic machines! This brought Billie headline attention from The Fort Worth Star Telegram and the syndicated PM Magazine television show.
In addition to being involved in the printing industry, Billie has also served as Glen Rose/Somervell County Chamber of Commerce Office Manager; served as President of Del Norte, Colorado Chamber of Commerce; President of Glen Rose Elementary PTA; Committee Chair for the annual Del Norte, Colorado Covered Wagon Days; and served in many civic clubs and on numerous committees. Just to ensure that there is no time left idle, Billie also owns a publishing company, and she handles all administrative duties of the non-profit Hood County Builders Association.
With the help of her husband Mike, and her three children Amber, Michael and Josh, she is an avid breeder of Boston Terrier dogs that are sold throughout the United States.
Billie brings with her a wide-array of management and supervisory experience and truly believes the community benefits from the addition of this newspaper to the area.
Storie Sharp
Lead Writer
Eager to bring you all the intensely local, people-focused news in and around Glen Rose and Somervell County, Storie Sharp joins the Glen Rose Newspaper team as Lead Writer. Storie brings eight years of publishing, reporting and editing experience to the paper, having been the Publisher/Editor of the Devil’s River News in Sonora, Texas since 1998. While there, Storie constantly worked to improve the quality of the publication; providing concise, unbiased, informative articles, entertaining editorials, eye-catching photos, creative graphic design and exceptional customer service. The community expressed their appreciation and respect for the job that she did by nominating her as the 2005 Sonora Chamber of Commerce Employee of the Year.
Prior to joining the DRN team, Storie was a travel agent for several years, and before that, managed a Guess? Inc. Factory Outlet Store in Conroe, Texas. Before “growing up” and finding a “real” job, Storie had a great time performing as a mermaid in an underwater show at Aquarena Springs in San Marcos, Texas, while studying journalism at Southwest Texas State University.
Not one to sit idle, Storie has been active with the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, acting as Sutton County Chairperson for three years and serving on the local board of directors for the ACS for five. She also served on the Sonora Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for four years, acting as President in 2004.
Growing up in a rodeo family, Storie has been an active member of the Sutton County Days and Sonora Outlaw Pro Rodeo Committee for almost ten years, serving as the Vice President for the last two. She took over the Miss Sutton County Queen Contest in 2000, working with Jr. and Sr. high school girls that helped raise funds for the annual rodeo while working to gain a scholarship and the coveted crown. She joined the West Texas Championship Cook-off Association in 2003, and has served as President for the last two years. She was named “Committee Member of the Year” this year, voted on by her peers and co-volunteers.
All of these events and committees were made a family-affair, with her husband of ten years, Mickey, and their two children, Garrett, 9, and Dawsyn, 6, working by her side at all times. The family is moving to the Glen Rose area because of a work transfer for Mickey, who will be joining the area’s rapidly increasing oil & gas market with Production Control Services’ new office in Cleburne. The entire family is excited and looking forward to meeting new people, making new friends and exploring their new home.
