GRISD reports NO confirmed cases, doors still open

By Storie Sharp

Glen Rose Superintendent, Wayne Rotan reported to the Glen Rose Newspaper, that as of 9:00 a.m. this morning, April 29, 2009, there have NO confirmed cases of swine flu in GRISD or Somervell County.

In an updated GRISD Home Page as of 2 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2009
"There has been 1 suspected case of the H1N1 virus within Somervell County.  A suspected case is one that has tested positive for Strain A influenza and is sent to the Health Department for H1N1 testing.  With the current amount of suspected cases across the state, the Texas Department of Health may take up to three weeks to deny or confirm the suspected case.  There have been NO reported or suspected cases within the GRISD school system."

GRISD is continuing to hold classes and student attendance is close to normal for this time of year.  As a precautionary measure, all outside of the district field trips, student and staff travel, public gatherings, etc. are being limited to reduce potential risk and exposure to students and staff members.  Activities will be limited to those within the school day through Friday May 8, 2009.  Most, if not all, of the events postponed during this time will be rescheduled.

GRISD is continuing to thoroughly sanitize and disinfect all classrooms, buses and campuses at the end of each school day.

GRISD will remain in contact with the Texas Dept. of Health and Glen Rose Medical Center for future updates.  You may call the Texas Dept. of Health and Human Services at 1-888-777-5320 or check the Glen Rose ISD website for updated information.

This precaution comes after the closing of some area school districts canceling classes due to confirmed cases of the swine flu.

Glen Rose ISD is in close contact with the Texas Department of Health and Glen Rose Medical Center and will continue to remain in contact with the Texas Department of Health and Glen Rose Medical Center for updated reports. The Texas Department of Health has opened a call center at 1-888-777-5320.

GRISD places the health and safety of the staff and students as its top priority. Again, as of 9:00 a.m. April 29 there have been NO confirmed cases of swine flu in GRISD or Somervell County. GRISD will notify students, staff and community should there be any changes or updates.
